OBJECTIVE: To make
Mum or Dad
look like a dummy.
EQUIPMENT: A big ball.
HOW TO PLAY:Mum/Dad folds arms while
son/daughter either passes the ball or fakes the pass
in an attempt to fool Mum/Dad. If Mum/Dad unfolds their
arms on the fake, they have
been fooled.
CONCEPTS LEARNT: Faking,dummying.
SKILLS PRACTICED: Chest pass,pass fake.
POINTS TO EMPHASISE: Step into pass,
ball starts at chest,elbows out, extend arms and point
fingers to target. Same movement and extension for fake
without letting go.
VARIATIONS: Lateral pass and
fake (football) push pass and fake (netball).
CAUTION: Do not reverse the game as
the child may catch a ball on the nose.
A ball on the nose is not fun.

OBJECTIVE: Steal
the ball without
getting tagged.
EQUIPMENT: A small ball.
HOW TO PLAY: Mum/Dad puts the ball
on the ground between their legs with their back to
their son/daughter who is 5 to 6 m away (home). Mum/Dad
spells the word STOP, eg: S-T-O-P spells STOP. When
Mum/Dad says "STOP" she/he spins around to
see if she/he can see their son/daughter moving. If
they catch them moving they go back to the start. The
child tries to steal the ball and run back to the start
without being
tagged.
CONCEPTS LEARNT: Possession, home,
opponents vision.
SKILLS PRACTICED: Stopping, body balance,
changing direction.
POINTS TO EMPHASISE: Bend the knees
when stopping, keep head inside base of feet like a
pyramid, move quietly on toes.
VARIATIONS: Get child to pick up
the ball with the other hand. This will
encourage stepping off the foot when
stealing the ball.

OBJECTIVE:
To get pass Mum/Dad without
being tagged.
EQUIPMENT: Space of approx. 4m x 6m.
HOW TO PLAY: Set boundaries as sidelines,
you can use a garden hose, line between 2 trees, fence
etc, so that there is a set space within which to play
the game. The child starts at one end and tries to run
past Mum/Dad to the other side when called over, eg.
"Red rover, red rover, Johnny come over."
When tagged the child goes into the
middle.
CONCEPTS LEARNT: Boundaries, directional
play,
defence, evasion.
SKILLS PRACTICED: Stepping, running,
stopping,
sliding, faking, changing pace.
POINTS TO EMPHASISE: Looks for the
gaps, fake using head, shoulders and eyes, slide when
in the middle, bend your knees, be ready.
VARIATIONS: Can add in more people
and can
add a ball so that the person in the middle has
to tag the person with the ball, to develop
concept of passing/teamwork.
CAUTION: Only call over one at a time
when
starting and two at a time if you are going
to add the ball to avoid collisions.

OBJECTIVE: To jump
on someone else's tail.
EQUIPMENT: Old pairs of pantyhose,
old
newspaper.
HOW TO PLAY: Put a piece of old newspaper
rolled
up into a ball in each end of the pantyhose.
Tuck one end into the back of your shorts
and let the other end fall to the ground like
a tail. Do the same for your child. One person is in
and tries to bounce like a kangaroo on someone else's
tail.
SKILLS PRACTICED: Jumping, body balance.
POINTS TO EMPHASISE:Swing arms when
jumping, bend knees when landing.
VARIATIONS: Try hopping, right leg,
then
left leg or just stepping.

OBJECTIVE: Catch the balloon.
EQUIPMENT: Balloon.
HOW TO PLAY: Simply throw the balloon
into the air and catch it.
SKILLS PRACTICED: Great for developing
hand eye coordination required for catching.
POINTS TO EMPHASISE: Keep eye on the
balloon, hands to the balloon.
VARIATIONS: Try striking and kicking,
left and right, jump to catch off two feet, jump to
catch off one foot, try filling the balloon with a small
amount of water to make it move quicker.

OBJECTIVE: To hit the ball.
EQUIPMENT: Ball, pool noodle, pair
of
pantyhose, rope and tree branch.
HOW TO PLAY: Simply place a ball in
the pantyhose and tie to a branch so that the ball can
swing freely, free from obstructions.Try to hit the
ball with the pool noodle, swinging it like a bat.
SKILLS PRACTICED: Great activity for
hand/eye coordination, striking.
VARIATIONS: Use feet for kicking,
hands for spiking or head for heading.

OBJECTIVE: Catch
the ball before it hits the ground.
EQUIPMENT: Large, light weight ball,
roof of house or garage.
HOW TO PLAY: Throw ball on to roof
and wait for
it to roll down and catch/hit/kick it before hits the
ground.
SKILLS PRACTICED: Catching, striking,
kicking, moving to kick/strike/catch.
VARIATIONS: A slope of any kind can
be used to allow the ball to roll back.Kick or throw
the ball up the slope.

OBJECTIVE: Jump the blades.
EQUIPMENT: Tennis ball and a pair of
old pantyhose.
HOW TO PLAY:Put the ball in one leg
of the pantyhose and swing the ball around you on the
ground. Jump the ball each time it comes around.
SKILLS PRACTICED: Visual cueing, tracking,
timing, jumping and balance.
VARIATIONS: Use a pool noodle to
hit the ball as it comes around.

OBJECTIVE: Jump the rope.
EQUIPMENT: Piece of soft rope.
HOW TO PLAY:Tie the rope to a fixed
object at
about (your child's) waist height. Swing the
rope around with your child in the middle. Be patient
if your child is not ready to coordinate the jump. Try
'helicopters' until they develop the timing and coordination.
SKILLS PRACTICED: Visual cueing, tracking,
timing, jumping and balance.
VARIATIONS: Start slowly and encourage
a rhythm of skips, eg: "bounce, bounce, JUMP ROPE".
Build speed to one bounce jump and then jump on each
time the rope comes around. Let them have a go at swinging
the rope themselves.
